Katja Moritz is a visual artist born in the South of Austria. She lives and works in Vienna, sometimes New York City.
Her paintings are expressive and multi-layered. Rich in color and depth, the artist’s daily observations are reflected in most of her work. These visual collections as well as her personal experiences and interests find appearance on the canvas, often in fictional characters and vague storytelling of them and their environment. She expresses emotion and explores connections to literature, theater, places, and myths. She creates somewhat cryptical stories with a strong, honest and raw feeling.
Her drawings are mainly minimalistic and intuitive. The process of creating these has influence on the canvas, as her paintings often include repetitive elements of patterns and lines. As an appreciation for the importance and the fragile intimacy of these, which often are overlaid in a painter’s process and often overlooked in nature, city’s streets and grid and humans and such.
Katja had a Solo Exhibition "THE GRIEVES" at Reaktor Vienna in 2026, a Solo Exhibition "driving out telling stories" at derKUNSTRAUM Vienna in 2024, and participated in several group shows and collections in Vienna, Italy and Paris.

Ihre Arbeiten sind expressiv und vielschichtig. Reich an Farbe und Tiefe, spiegeln sich die täglichen Beobachtungen der Künstlerin in den meisten ihrer Werke wider. Diese visuellen Sammlungen sowie ihre persönlichen Erfahrungen finden ihren Ausdruck auf der Leinwand, oft in Form fiktiver Charaktere und vager Erzählungen dieser und ihrer Umgebung. Sie drückt Emotionen aus und schneidert Verbindungen zu Literatur, Theater, Orten und Mythen. Sie kreiert teils kryptische Geschichten mit einem starken, ehrlichen und rohen Gefühl.
Ihre Zeichnungen sind überwiegend minimalistisch und intuitiv. Der Entstehungsprozess beeinflusst die Arbeiten auf Leinwand, da diese oft wiederholende Muster- und Linienelemente enthalten. Als Wertschätzung der Bedeutung und der fragilen Intimität dieser, die im Prozess eines Malers oft überlagert werden und in der Natur, den Straßen und Rastern der Stadt, den Menschen und dergleichen oft übersehen werden.
Ihre Arbeiten wurden in Wien, Italien und Paris gezeigt.
